Lead in Drinking Water
Many of you have heard about the lead problems in Flint, Michigan and Portland. Their issues are real and troubling.
Oak Lodge Water District does not have an issue with lead in the drinking water. There is no natural lead in our water we draw from the Clackamas River. However, there can be lead in your house plumbing fixtures.
Oak Lodge does an annual sampling of 60 homes in the houses targeted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Any test that exceeds 15 parts per million of lead exceed the amount that should be in the water. For several years none of the 60 samples taken has exceeded that amount.
The treated water is supplemented with soda ash to raise the pH of the finished water. Higher pH water is not aggressive and will not corrode pipes that may release lead into your house plumbing.
