Water Districts participation

Oak Lodge Water District is a member of the Regional Water Providers Consortium Group (RWPC). The Group was developed in 1996. RWPC is made up of 23 independent water providers including the city of Portland in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties. The goal of RWPC is to develop a regional water supply plan, and to promote efficient water use throughout the region.

The Water Districts participation in the RWPC is voluntary and is funded through membership dues. The organization provides a forum for study and discussion of water supply issues and communicates adopted policy and strategies to the public. The RWPC is committed to promoting cost efficient use of our water resources and protecting those resources to meet the values of its collective members and the needs of future generations.

INDOOR/OUTDOOR WATER CONSERVATION TIPS

  • TURN THE FAUCET OFF WHILE BRUSHING YOUR TEETH.
  • KEEP DRINKING WATER IN THE REFRIDERATOR INSTEAD OF RUNNING THE FAUCET TO GET THE WATER COLD.
  • SWEEP SIDEWALKS AND DRIVEWAYS INSTEAD OF USING A HOSE.
  • WASH YOUR DOG ON THE LAWN AND GIVE THE GRASS A DRINK.
  • FILL THE BATHTUB HALF FULL OR TAKE 5-MINUATE SHOWERS.
  • ALWAYS DO FULL LOADS OF LAUNDRY.
  • ADJUST YOUR LAWN IRRIGATION HEADS SO THEY ONLY WATER THE LAWN OR PLANTS, NOT THE SIDEWALKS.
  • WATER ONLY 1 INCH PER WEEK.
  • WATER IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. (BEFORE 10:00 AM)
  • USE THE DISHWASHER TO WASH DISHES. IT CAN USE HALF AS MUCH WATER.

TRY TO DO AT LEAST ONE OF THESE WATER SAVING TIPS. EVERY LITTLE BIT MAKES A BIG DIFFRENCE


HOW MUCH WATER ARE WE USING WHEN WE…….?

  • FLUSH THE TOILET, 5 GALLONS.
  • BRUSH OUR TEETH, UP TO 4 GALLONS.
  • TAKE A SHOWER, UP TO 25 GALLONS.
  • WASH OUR HANDS, UP TO 4 GALLONS.
  • SHAVE, UP TO 5 GALLONS.
  • WASH DISHES IN THE DISHWASHER, UP TO 15 GALLONS.
  • WATER IN THE SUMMER, 8-10 GALLONS PER MINUATE.


WATERING 1 INCH PER WEEK

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DETERMINE HOW LONG IT TAKES TO WATER YOUR LAWN 1 INCH. Brought to you by the Regional Water Providers Consortium at www.conserveh2o.org.

  1. Set 3-5 empty tuna cans or rain gauges at various places on your lawn within your sprinklers’ range. Place the cans half way between the sprinklers and in the areas that generally receive the least amount of sprinkler water.
  2. Turn on your sprinklers for 15 minutes.
  3. Measure the depth of the water in each can/rain gauge and record it on a piece of paper.
  4. Determine the average depth.
  5. Use the chart to determine your watering times. Find the average watering depth in the tuna cans that you set out with your sprinkler. The number to the right tells how much time it will take to get 1 inch of water to the lawn during the summer months. One per week is all your lawn needs.
For example:
(can #1) + (can # 2)+ (can # 3)+ (can # 4)+ (can # 5) = a total depth of____.
Divide the total depth by 5 for an average depth of ____.

Average water depth (inches) in tuna can/rain gauge after 15 minutes, and total water time in minutes for 1 inch of water.

  • IT REQUIRES APPROXIMATELY 4 GALLONS OF WATER TO PROCESS A POUND OF HAMBURGER.
  • IT TAKES 1,5OO GALLONS OF WATER TO MAKE ONE BARREL OF BEER.
  • ABOUT 39,000 GALLONS OF WATER ARE USED TO MANUFACTURE A NEW CAR.
  • AN AVARAGE RESIDENCE IN THE U.S. USES 107,000 GALLONS OF WATER PER YEAR.
  • A HUMAN CAN SURVIVE ABOUT ONE MONTH WITHOUT FOOD, BUT WILL SURVIVE ONLY ABOUT ONE WEEK WITHOUT WATER.


OF ALL THE EARTHS WATER, 97% IS IN THE OCEANS, 2% IS FROZEN, AND 1% IS SUITABLE FOR DRINKING.



Remember, the water on the earth today is the same water that was here in the beginning of the earth’s time. There is never more or less. The water simply evaporates, turns into clouds, rains, and begins the cycle over again. Water is a precious resource; we should all be using it wisely.
